Hiking through Slovenia

Catching up on photos from my European trip!

After spending the weekend in Koper it was on to Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. I ended up staying here a little over two weeks. I was able to practice on harps at the university, and got to meet some of the many harpists in Slovenia, including giving a workshop the last week I was there.

I taught the final two Harp Tuesday Weekends of my September sessions, as well as doing two weeks of online teaching with my students. I also found time to do a bit of hiking – visiting the very picturesque Lake Bled, hiking around the entire lake plus hiking up a mountain for a nice view of the lake.

And then a hike up Mount Visevnik. This was quite an adventure, 6 hours in total from the start of the hike until I got back (including rests) and supposedly 740m of elevation gain. The Julian alps are a magical backdrop visible throughout a lot of Slovenia.

I was hoping for a clear day and I think the views would have been spectacular, but in the end it was fairly cloudy, especially as I got close to the top. That had its own magic, though, and all-and-all an amazing memory.

The last two days I moved from the apartment I had been renting to a hotel right along the river in downtown Ljubljana and got to wonder around and see a bit more of the city life.

All in all, a great time in a country that prior to this I’d only passed through on a train – super friendly people and beautiful nature, I will definitely be back!

Next up, a recap of a very busy October :)
