After a long hiatus, Season 7 (Down-Under Again) resumed this Saturday with a video filmed up in the hills outside Christchurch, New Zealand! (On a beautiful Kim Webby harp).
Last year, before I left for Europe, I posted four episodes in season 7 of Harpist in the Wild. These were all videos filmed during my 2024 tour of Australia and New Zealand. I had one last video that I didn’t manage to finish editing in time, and it also didn’t get done before I left for Australia…
But it’s worked out well, because while I was in Australia this year, I was able to film three more Harpist in the Wild episodes!
They fit perfectly with the theme of “down-under again” and I’ll be uploading them once a week on Saturdays.
It means that, including this past Saturday’s video, Season 7 will have eight episodes in the series, rather than just five!
The piece of music I played for this past episode is an Air and Variations by the French harpist and composer Martin Pierre Dalvimare. The sheet music is freely available on IMSLP and I did a series of Harp Tuesday episodes on it years ago if you feel inclined to give it a go yourself.
Another duet video!
Since I last wrote I uploaded a performance of Franz Poenitz’s “Wikingerfahrt” or Viking Journey from a concert with Suneetha Carter in Hahndorf, South Australia
This is a really cool and rarely performed piece that I’d never heard before learning it. It really does feel like one is going on a journey :)
Two New Harp Tuesday episodes
I filmed a short episode on how to play a harmonic plus a regular note with the RIGHT hand:
And I just posted an episodes with some thoughts on building and maintaining a repertoire:
That’s it for now! Look for a new episode of Harpist in the Wild (filmed at 90 Mile Beach in Australia) this coming Saturday, and I will write again soon :)
Thanks as always for reading,
Josh
