I have several concerts coming up that I want to share with you!
Land, Sea, and Sky is a concert featuring local composers, with each piece on the program dedicated to a conservation group. I’ll be performing my piece Cotton Butterfly (dedicated to the Natural History Society) with wonderful ‘cellist Paula Kiffner. I originally wrote Cotton Butterfly for harp and double bass, but I think it’s going to work very well with ‘cello! I’ll also be playing with Paula for Sylvia Rickard‘s Song for the Earth (dedicated to the Land Conservancy of B.C.)
There will be two performances of the program – the first is coming up this Friday evening, April 4th, at the First Unitarian Church, 5575 West Saanich Rd, and the second on April 26 at Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary, 3873 Swan Lake Rd. See the poster for all the details.
Here’s the video of the premiere of Cotton Butterfly (with double bassist Mark Haney):
And on Sunday, April 6 at 2:30 pm I’ll be performing with the Philomela Women’s Choir. Concert details can be found at here.
I’ll be playing for a piece by Josef Rheinburger called “How lovely are thy dwellings” as well as Brahms’ wonderful Four Songs for Women’s Chorus, two horns, and harp. This is a fantastic and very satisfying piece to play! Check out this YouTube video (which shows the score as the music is playing):
Hope to see you at one of the concerts if you’re in the area!
Josh
